Why I’m doing what I’m doing

Why I’m doing what I’m doing

Over the past couple of years, I have met quite a few people via social media, especially Twitter. This past week one of them asked me a truly hard-hitting question, that made me stop and think. I was simply asked, “Why?”. Last year, I started following a blog called: the Blog of Manly. For years now I have been on a quest to better myself as a man. And in doing so I run across many of blogs and posts. I began reading BoM’s posts and interacting with the authors on Twitter. My interactions lead me to following Chris Gould.

Stop being busy

Stop being busy

I went fishing, the other day, with two of my good friends. I misread the text message and arrived a half hour early.  It really didn’t matter, as I was  excited to hang out with my friends and going fishing, that I was awake at 5 a.m. I lay in bed waiting for my alarm to go off, which seemed like hours. I got up and took a shower, then got dressed and ready. Once there, I wandered around the boat ramp awaiting my friends, thinking to myself “Where are they?” So I checked my text and realized that I misread

Beware or Be aware?

Beware or Be aware?

After a romantic dinner with your wife or significant other, you walk to your car a few blocks away. You can hear the tires of an approaching car splash in a puddle, you can smell the fresh scent of rain on the still warm cobblestone street, you can hear the street light buzz, then flicker off and on, you hear someone near strike a lighter and smell the burning tobacco of a menthol cigarette; the sound of footsteps more than just your own are heard going away from you. You think to yourself, I feel like a spy or secret

I’m that dad…

I’m that dad…

Days before school let out for Christmas, I attended my daughter’s 3rd grade spelling bee. It just so happened that it was also pajama day at the school. The night before, my daughter asked me if I was going to attend said spelling bee? I replied of course. She followed up jokingly  with if I was going to wear pajamas? Which I thought to myself, I don’t wear pajamas. So I asked if she wanted me to? And of course, she said yes. I told her I would think about it. Flash back to my early days of being a

Be creative not critical

In a figurative manner, the ability to speak is not the same as having a voice. In this day and age of social media, it’s easy to confuse the two. Words have an impact and now more than ever, we can just as easily lose touch with how impactful they can be. When speaking of art in particular, it’s more convenient to criticize than to create. Before you write a “nasty” Facebook post about a movie or a song that you “hate”, or typing a tweet about a book that is #boring consider this… Once upon a time, before the

Tis’ the Season

Tis’ the Season

“Tis’ the season to be jolly” are traditional Christmas carol lyrics. Not only is this a season to be jolly, but it’s also a season to be thankful. We all need to slow down and reflect on what we have. I find it quite comical, that following thanksgiving, a time to be thankful for friends and family, early the next morning people are pushing, shoving and just down right mean trying to get a bargain. I am currently attempting to teach my three children about gratefulness and thankfulness. Which is difficult when this time of year has turned into a
